Swap 5 Food Items That Aggravate Cold And Cough In Winters

The winters’ onset indicates chilled mornings, laziness, and an increase in calorie-rich food intake. Winters make us sluggish and weaken our immune system, making us prone to cough and cold. We may take some immunity boosters such as turmeric, ashwagandha, chawanprash, etc., and still find no improvement. If you’re wondering why then let us be your helping hand in answering it.

Despite having a balanced diet, some food items may aggravate cough and cold in winters, weakening our immunity and making us prone to frequent illness? Ayurveda provides the best cure. To name some of them, here are five alternative foods that you can prefer during winters:

1 Swap sugar with Gur (Baggese) or Honey-

Sugar increases obesity and cholesterol and is a potent agent in increasing cough, making us prone to cold. Substitute sugar with jaggery or honey. Brown sugar is preferable when the other two are not available.

2 Swap refined oil or Vanaspatee with Desi ghee or Extra virgin coconut, olive, or palm oil-

Avoid using oily food, as they tend to increase mucus. But using extra virgin oil or desi ghee instead of vanaspati can be useful, as they have proven benefits for health.

3 Swap caffeinated drinks with ayurvedic drinks-

Avoiding caffeinated drinks is more concerned with developing habits using will power. It is not so tough to make small changes. As a morning tea, you can boil. Tulsi, ashwagandha, carrom seeds, or any ayurvedic mixture, and have it.

4 Swap having fruits in the evening –

Taking fruits or juices in the evening leads to congestion in the chest, so it is best to limit their intake and take it in the morning.

5 Swap alcohol with healthy drinks-

Alcohol encourages inflammation and weakens white blood cells, thereby decreasing immunity. You can swap it with healthy soups or juices.
